Tobi Makinde Wins Global Recognition Award at GEF 2024
Tobi Makinde, renowned Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, has added another accolade to his growing list of achievements. The 33-year-old was honored with the Global Recognition Award at the recently concluded 3-day Global Entrepreneurship Festival held in Akure from November 22-24, 2024.
The award celebraates Makinde’s outstanding impact on advancing global entrepreneurship development, highlighting his innovative approach to storytelling and his efforts to inspire creativity within and beyond Nollywood.
Speaking at the event, Makinde expressed his gratitude and reiterated his commitment to fostering entrepreneurship. “This recognition means a lot to me because it’s not just about what I’ve achieved, but about the lives we’ve been able to touch through our work. Entrepreneurship is not just about business; it’s about creating opportunities for others to dream, grow, and succeed,” he said.
Makinde, known for his iconic roles in Jenifa’s Diary and A Tribe Called Judah, as well as his success co-directing Battle on Buka Street, has long been passionate about using his platform to promote authentic African stories and inspire young creatives. His career spans over two decades, beginning as a child actor at age seven.
Beyond his contributions to Nollywood, Makinde has taken significant strides in empowering aspiring filmmakers and entrepreneurs. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and collaborations, he has helped shape the next generation of storytellers.
