More Than a Marathoner: How Regina Fleming Is Inspiring Women to Dream Bigger After 40

Published:

By all accounts, Regina Fleming was not supposed to be here.

Not on the global marathon stage. Not among elite endurance athletes. And certainly not running across continents, including one of the most unforgiving terrains on earth, Antarctica.

But that is exactly what makes her story so powerful.

Because Regina Fleming did not start as a runner. She became one.

And in doing so, she is rewriting the narrative for women everywhere, especially those over 40 who have been quietly told that their best days are behind them.

The Accidental Runner Who Became a Global Force

Regina calls herself “an accidental runner,” and she means it.

She didn’t grow up training for races. She didn’t have a background in athletics. In fact, when she signed up for her very first half marathon, she thought it would be something like a walkathon. She trained for just a few days on a treadmill and showed up with no real understanding of what to expect.

But something shifted the moment she crossed that finish line.

When that medal was placed around her neck, it wasn’t just a symbol of completion. It was a declaration.

She had discovered something deeper than running. She had discovered who she could become.

Since that moment in 2015, Regina has completed over 100 races, including more than 55 full and half marathons, in cities across the globe, including New York, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, London, Tokyo, Paris, and beyond.

And she’s not just participating. She’s excelling.

Regina is one of only a few thousand runners worldwide to earn the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors Seven Star Finisher distinction, placing her in an elite category of global endurance athletes.

But ask her, and she will tell you, the medals are not the mission.

Running as a Platform for Purpose

For Regina Fleming, running is the vehicle. The real story is transformation.

Her journey is rooted in something much bigger than sport. It’s about identity, courage, discipline, and the decision to stop counting yourself out.

“I realized that running is about far more than medals and finish lines,” she shares. “It’s about deciding who you want to be.”

That realization became her platform.

Today, Regina represents a powerful and often underrepresented voice. A middle aged Black woman pursuing world class endurance goals with style, substance, faith, and purpose.

In a culture that often sidelines women as they age, she is doing the opposite. She is showing up. Standing out. And inviting other women to do the same.

Her message is clear. You are not too old. It is not too late. And you are not too far behind.

Antarctica Changed Everything

If there is one moment that defines Regina’s evolution, it is her recent completion of the Antarctica Marathon.

Just getting there was a journey. The terrain was brutal. The conditions were unpredictable. And every step demanded mental and physical resilience.

But Regina chose it anyway.

And finishing that race changed her.

“It made me bet on myself more, believe in myself more, and trust that I could do hard things,” she reflects.

That is the heartbeat of her journey.

Not perfection. Not ease. But the willingness to choose challenge and grow because of it.

The Power of Showing Up Anyway

Regina’s journey has not been without obstacles.

There have been injuries. Fatigue. The constant balancing act of training, business, travel, and life.

There was even a moment during the New York City Marathon when severe pain nearly stopped her in her tracks. Just one mile in, she found herself on the Triborough Bridge, hurting and questioning how she would make it through the remaining 25.2 miles.

But she kept going.

Walking. Jogging. Running through the pain.

Because she had already decided who she was.

“I would have done whatever it took,” she says.

That is the mindset she models and the message she is determined to share.

Reinvention Has No Expiration Date

Regina Fleming is not just running races. She is leading a movement.

Her mission is to become a stronger voice in conversations around aging, visibility, and possibility through speaking engagements, media appearances, and wellness platforms that reach women who are ready for their next chapter.

She is building programs for new runners. Writing her story. Expanding her impact.

And most importantly, she is creating representation.

Because when women see her, running marathons across continents, embracing challenge, and living boldly, they begin to question the limits they have placed on themselves.

And that is where everything changes.

The Legacy She’s Building

Regina’s story is not about running.

It is about what happens when a woman decides to believe again.

When she stops shrinking and starts expanding.

When she trades hesitation for action.

And when she realizes that her next chapter can be her most powerful one yet.

Her journey is a reminder that reinvention is always available. That courage can be cultivated. And that the life you want is often waiting on the other side of the thing that scares you most.

So if you’ve been sitting on a dream…

If you’ve been wondering if it’s too late…

Let Regina Fleming be your answer.

It’s not.

And your race might just be getting started.
