On January 30, 2025, Sister Connie Kramer passed away from complications related to an inoperable brain tumor. For many in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, she was a teacher, pastoral counselor and spiritual director. For Christine Turo-Shields, she was something more intimate: mentor, spiritual guide and friend.
Now, in a deeply personal essay published February 7, 2026 in the National Catholic Reporter, Turo-Shields reflects on the final lessons Sister Connie imparted—lessons not about avoiding grief, but embracing it.
