Precious Chika, the founder of Social Media Guru, has turned an initial side hustle into a booming business. What began as a way to make some extra cash during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has grown into a successful enterprise with a growing client base and a robust training academy.

Chika, who studied Physiology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, initially saw social media management as a temporary job. “I was just trying to make some money as a struggling youth corp member,” Chika recalls. “Social media management was something I could do without any capital, and it seemed like a good way to earn while I was at my PPA.”

To her surprise, what started as a side gig quickly became more than just a temporary solution. “My client base grew, the business expanded, and I fell in love with it,” Chika says. Her dedication and passion for social media management transformed what was once a small venture into Social Media Guru, a prominent agency known for its effective marketing solutions.

The journey wasn’t always smooth. Chika faced numerous challenges, especially with Nigerian businesses not always recognizing the value of investing in social media. “One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is convincing business owners in Nigeria to allocate a proper budget for social media,” Chika explains. “Their expectations are high, but their investment is often minimal. I hope for a greater appreciation of the work that social media managers do.”

Amidst these obstacles, Chika has made significant strides. Her agency not only provides top-notch social media marketing solutions but also focuses on training the next generation of social media managers through the SMG Academy. “We’re working hard to build the next generation of skilled and high-earning social media managers,” Chika says. “Our goal is to ensure that individuals in this field are proud of their work and deliver excellent services to their clients.”
