How Monique Caradine-Kitchens is helping Black women live abundantly by providing access to coaching, content and community

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Caradine-Kitchens.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I’m originally from the South Side of Chicago where I grew up watching Oprah Winfrey and Diann Burns on Channel 7. Seeing these two black women on TV everyday inspired me to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Shortly after finishing college, I started working in the media and loved using my platforms to educate and inspire my audience. I quickly became nationally recognized as one of the top radio talk show hosts in the country.

Despite the accolades, there was always a question lingering in the back of my head: “Why am I not earning what I’m worth?”

My search for an answer to this question led me on a journey to better understand money, how to make more of it and how to do so without the stress and constant “hustle and grind” that I had become accustomed to.

On this journey, I discovered that mindset is key to not only making more money but also creating abundance in every area of life. I was so completely transformed by my findings that I decided to become certified as a money mindset coach so I could teach women these and other truths about money and abundance. This is basically how I got to where I am today.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

The biggest challenge I had to overcome was my own mindset!

For years I believed that working with a coach or a therapist was admitting defeat. I thought that if you hire a coach that was a sign of weakness. However, in 2009 when the market crashed and my business was on life support, I realized that I had done everything I knew how to do to keep it alive. I knew that if the business was going to survive, I had to get help. That’s when I hired my first coach.

That decision changed my entire life and led me to doing the work I do today.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I support women who want to do better with money and create lives of abundance. I do this through my three pillars for success: coaching, content and community.

While there are many other people in this space, what makes me unique is a couple of things.

First, although I work with anyone no matter what their race or gender is, I have an affinity for working with Black women. That’s because Black women do it all. In the midst of being “all things to all people,” it can be a struggle to earn what we’re worth and reach for that bigger life.

Many times, we weren’t shown the way. We need practical financial skills—but we weren’t taught them. Often times, we don’t have a financial cushion or generational wealth. We have the hunger—but we need the support.

I get it. It’s why I’ve created the system, space, podcast and built-in support to normalize conversations about money and abundance.

If you’re a Black woman, know that I see you and I get you. Know that what awaits you is the big, bold, overflow life you deserve. The door is open—it’s yours to walk through, and I’m here to walk with you.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

My best advice for people who want to be successful is to define what success means to you and create it on YOUR terms.

Don’t let social media trick you into believing that success means having a million followers or you have to dance and lip sync on TikTok to make an impact. If that does not feel like success to you, discover what does.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Great question. To me, true success is surrendering to your unique, God-given purpose.

Sometimes God can give us a life purpose that feels overwhelming or He might give us something that we don’t think we’re equipped to handle. However, as I said in a recent episode of my podcast (Sisternomics, episode 96), if God gives us the vision, he will also give us the provision to make it happen.

Every time I have surrendered to my purpose, I realize that l have more than enough of everything I need. When I have the courage to follow my destiny, I am living in the overflow.

What’s next for you?

I have a God-given assignment to help as many Black women as possible unleash overflow in every area of their lives but I cannot do it alone. So for the next few years I’ll be focused on creating content and training more women to become OverFlow Certified Coaches.

The next OverFlow Certified Coach Training Cohorts happen June 2023 and October of 2023. My second book will be available before the end of the year.
