GEM IN EYE Cosmetics: The story behind the buzz and what lies ahead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shey Casucian.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I have been insecure with my eye size ever since I can remember. I would use a lot of cosmetics particularly eye cosmetics to make my eyes look bigger. In addition to that, I have sparse eyelashes. I am not blessed at all with natural eyelashes! At the beginning, I was always on quest of looking for mascara that will give a lot of volume and length. However, no matter how good a certain product are, for me mascara is just not that attractive. It looks clumpy, spidery, and unnatural. I first came across with false eyelashes when I attended prom and my makeup artist put eyelashes on me and my confidence went from 0 to 100. From then on, I have been obsessed with it that it have been my vanity staple to always have false eyelashes NO MATTER WHAT.

It came to a point that I have hundred of eyelash paper boxes on my vanity, its literally everywhere in my walk-in closet. I found that so annoying that I wondered if there will be ever a more attractive way to store these lashes because I am just not a fan of boxes,I toss them right away! That’s what triggered me to open up my own cosmetics brand. I wanted all lash lovers like me to have a sturdy and attractive place to put their eyelashes. Because like diamond, eyelashes are really a girl’s best friend. So how do we intend to store our diamonds?

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Most of my struggle has been time and balancing my life, work and my business not to mention I opened this business at the height of the pandemic. I had to really adjust a lot of personal things that I enjoy. I have to give those things up to make more time to for the business. It has only been only 5 months after I launched my business and finally I was able to straighten things out by following a planned schedule everyday.

I try to make something productive for the business on a daily basis, whether it’s a website improvement, a social media content, talking to my digital manager and doing my personal research everyday. Social media has been my challenge too as I have to be consistently on top of it, platforms are changing their algorithms every single day. There has been updates left and right and it’s so hard to keep up. For now what’s really working for me is to really have a planned schedule to do all these.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

When I started with the concept I knew I will be specializing mostly on eyes specifically eyelashes. That is why my main flagship products are my lash kits. What people do not know is that my obsession really help me with conceptualizing all of it. I have tried upper strip eyelashes, lower strip eyelashes, magnetic eyelashes, cluster eyelashes, eyelash extension etc. While eyelashes extension could be the optimal choice for some, it wasn’t working for me. It takes a lot of time, it falls off daily, not to mention its expensive. There has been a lot of like anxiety whenever I see piece by piece of eyelash extension falls off. I also didn’t like when it gets on the way when Im applying eyeshadows on my eyes. I also hated the fact that I have to avoid washing my eyes when Im cleaning my face or when Im in the shower. That is why falsies and semi-permanent eyelashes really works for me. I believe it’s conventional, practical, cheaper and less stressful. My lash kits are specifically combined together according to each person’s preference. The storage of my lashes are sturdy acrylic and a lot of them will be designed custom-made. I already have one that is custom-made and it stores & organizes all your eyelashes in one luxury box. I am committed to continuously deliver high quality items and to improve my products and create solutions in cosmetics.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Hmmn success for me is subjective and it differs on every individual . But if you are going to ask me on a personal basis, to find success one must have a strong drive to reach their destination. Just like actual driving, there will be a lot of stops and turns. However long the driving will take, you should keep driving. You cannot be discouraged with hard stops because there will be surely a lot of them along the way. A mentor also once told me that success is not measured by how much money you have but my how many people you know; a meaningful relationship.

So for me, a good interpersonal skills combined with strong emotional well-being helps you to attain your goal, it will also help you on times of adversities, issues and negativity. You cannot simply feel motivated all the time there will be a lot of set backs to the point you are going to ask yourself is it for me? If you are not strong enough to overcome these kind of emotions? You will definitely fall apart. Surround yourself with people that with support you, read inspirational books, listen to experts in their fields. Shrug off negativity. It’s a state of mind. A strong organizational skills, planning and prioritization helps you in achieving your goal. You can’t dream without a plan; you can’t plan and not take action.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Again, success for me is subjective. If you are going to ask me right now, I already considered myself successful. I have a wonderful family, I am living in my dream city here in Los Angeles and Ive worked at my dream job of one of the most renowned hospitals in the world. Whatever I am doing right now, is my passion out of my obsession. And I think that is one of the most integral part of having a business.

I am creating a new dream but this isn’t about myself anymore, I am creating this for my family and also for people out there to know and feel the integral values of my business. Success for me is passing on success to another. You cannot just own it all to yourself. There are a lot of factors and people behind anybody’s success. That is why I have a high belief and regard with mentoring. I always follow advises and footsteps of my mentors. I never turned down a good advice nor valuable criticism. If I am able to help a person achieve their dream to model, to do photoshoot, to create illustrations etc. I already feel successful.

What’s next for you?

What’s next for GEMINEYE COSMETICS is going to be really exciting. Although our main products and what is unique from us is our different lash kits, we will slowly start incorporating beauty cosmetics into the mix.

Right now, we have our dual chamber liquid matte lipstick + lipliner called “Never-Ending Liplock™” that is transfer-resistant with ultra rich formula and a long lasting moisture and wear coming up by the end of this month (May 2021).

We will also have eyeshadow trios, brow definer, lash adhesive and eye primer too in terms of expanding our cosmetic line by June 2021. However, I am most thrilled to announce in this interview that we are creating a new line called “Hooked™ by Gemineye Cosmetics” which mainly focuses on nail preparations and the first products will be artisan faux nails available by June-July 2021!

The next coming seasons, we will start rolling out our 1st eyeshadow palette and also the one to watch out for is our cluster, semi-permanent eyelashes kit! Whoa, this one, I am seriously exhilarated, if you are a fan of eyelash extensions, you might change your mind after you use this. So there is a lot of things to look forward to with our brand and we cannot wait to produce and start making it available to the market.
