Dr. Kristin Morris: Changing the Culture of Corporate America, One Organization at a Time

Published:

Dr. Kristin Morris is a strategist with heart. As the Founder and Principal Consultant of Genesis Consulting Services, a performance improvement firm grounded in inclusion and data, she brings nearly two decades of experience in organizational transformation. Her client portfolio spans Fortune 500s, government agencies, and nonprofits, with a mission that always returns to one central idea: sustainable results start with people.

“Too many consultancies leave clients with a pretty slide deck and no plan,” Morris says. “We stay from kickoff to implementation. That’s our edge—and our promise.”

That edge stems from lived experience. Early in her career, Dr. Morris often found herself as the only Black woman in the boardroom, navigating spaces that lacked psychological safety and representation. “There were times I questioned whether my corporate role was truly for me,” she recalls. “It became clear that my voice wasn’t always welcome—but I had something important to say.”

So, in 2019, just months after receiving her doctorate in Performance Improvement Leadership—and while raising four children, including a newborn—she launched Genesis Consulting Services. Since then, she has scaled the woman-owned firm nationally, helping more than 7,000 employees and leaders improve systems, strategy, and culture.

In a recent video interview, Dr. Morris emphasized the need for leaders to understand change beyond strategy. “Organizations need to be more human,” she said. “If you want people to change, you have to create an environment where they feel safe, valued, and heard.” She also highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence and active listening in navigating organizational resistance: “It’s not just about pushing new initiatives—it’s about building trust so change can take root.”

Dr. Morris’s methodology blends systems thinking with a deep commitment to inclusive excellence. Her end-to-end consulting approach—from needs assessments through to measurement and evaluation—ensures clients don’t just get recommendations, they get results.

She is also a national thought leader, serving on executive boards like the National Small Business Association’s Leadership Council and the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development. A 2023 Women in Business Honoree by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who in America Leadership Award, she has also been featured at national and international conferences for her insight on DEI, leadership, and performance.

“Success isn’t about doing it all,” says Morris. “It’s about knowing what matters most—and being fully present for it.” Whether she’s leading a strategic planning session, facilitating leadership development, or spending time with her family, Dr. Morris exemplifies harmony over hustle.
