Michigan Bakery to Showcase Health-Conscious Snacks at Hill Road Location
GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. — Cooper Street Cookies, a Michigan-based bakery known for its twice-baked, allergy-friendly snacks, will participate in a special Costco Roadshow to celebrate the grand opening of the new Costco warehouse on Hill Road in Genesee County. The roadshow will run from March 13 to March 16, 2025, introducing Flint-area shoppers to Cooper Street’s signature baked goods at the newly constructed store.
Shoppers will have the opportunity to sample and purchase Cooper Street’s popular 22-ounce Cherry White Chip cookies, which are already available in select Costco locations. The event will also feature a “Pick 4 Mix and Match” deal, allowing customers to select four 5-ounce bags from a variety of flavors, including Blueberry Lemon, Orange Cranberry, Cinnamon Chocolate Chip, and Brownie Chocolate Crunch, for just $6.15. Each cookie contains approximately 25 calories and is free from peanuts, dairy, soy, trans fats, and artificial additives—making them a guilt-free snack option.
Founded in 2011 by Elaine Surnow and her sons, Max and Sam, Cooper Street Cookies was inspired by a cherished family recipe passed down from Surnow’s great-grandmother. The company modernized the original mandel bread recipe by reducing sugar, salt, and fat to create a lighter, health-conscious treat. What began as a small operation selling at Michigan farmers’ markets in 2012 has grown into a nationally recognized brand available at major retailers, including Kroger, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Costco.
The Cherry White Chip flavor combines white chocolate chunks with Michigan-grown cherries, while Blueberry Lemon blends tart Michigan blueberries with a refreshing citrus note. Orange Cranberry balances the sweetness of orange zest with the tanginess of cranberries. Cinnamon Chocolate Chip, the company’s original flavor, remains a customer favorite, and Brownie Chocolate Crunch delivers a rich, chocolatey bite.
Cooper Street’s growth has been fueled by strategic production improvements and key retail partnerships. Initially baking in a home kitchen and later in a rented bread factory in Pontiac, the company eventually acquired a manufacturing facility to meet rising demand. Max Surnow’s business plan, developed with support from Michigan State University’s Product Center, was instrumental in scaling operations. Kroger’s early adoption of Cooper Street products helped establish a foothold in the retail market, paving the way for expansion into national chains.
The upcoming Costco Roadshow at the Hill Road location reflects this growth and marks a new opportunity for Cooper Street to engage with customers in Genesee County. Brand representatives will be present during the roadshow to offer samples and share the story behind Cooper Street’s commitment to high-quality, better-for-you snacks.
The Costco roadshow will take place from Thursday, March 13, through Sunday, March 16, 2025. Shoppers are encouraged to visit early to take advantage of special pricing and sample the range of Cooper Street products.
