For many women, the desire to change is familiar. They set new goals, promise themselves better habits, and approach each new year with renewed determination. Yet despite their best intentions, old patterns often return. The same self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and automatic reactions continue to influence their decisions.
Calgary certified neuroplasticity coach and specialist in brain science and behaviour change, Cicilia Hartley believes the answer lies in understanding how those patterns develop and learning to change them.
On December 2, 2026, Hartley will bring that message to Creating a Beautiful Life, an event hosted at aspiHer Women’s Business Club in Calgary. Her presentation, Rewire Your Future: Change the Pattern and You Change Your Life, will explore how women can recognize habitual thinking, reshape their internal dialogue, and begin making choices that support the lives they want.
Through her company, Pattern Shift Coaching, Hartley has built a practice around a principle that emerged from her own experience: meaningful change requires more than determination.
A Personal Crisis That Changed Her Direction
Hartley’s interest in neuroplasticity began during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
In 2019, she received a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, was 80 pounds overweight, had lost her job, and was experiencing debilitating anxiety. The challenges affected her health, confidence, and sense of direction.
Rather than continuing to approach change through willpower alone, she began studying neuroplasticity, the brain’s capacity to adapt through learning and experience, alongside the relationship between self-talk and behaviour.
She gradually applied what she learned to her daily decisions.
Over time, Hartley lost more than 60 pounds, made significant improvements in her health, rebuilt her confidence, advanced her executive career, and eventually established Pattern Shift Coaching.
Her experience became the foundation of her professional work.
“Change your pattern and you change your future,” Hartley says.
Today, as a certified neuroplasticity coach specializing in brain science and behaviour change, she helps women examine the thinking habits that influence their personal and professional lives.
Making Behaviour Change Practical
Hartley’s coaching focuses on helping clients recognize the thoughts and responses they repeat automatically, particularly when those patterns interfere with their goals.
Her approach emphasizes manageable adjustments that can be practiced consistently rather than dramatic changes that are difficult to sustain.
She has developed tools such as The Six-Minute Rewire™, an exercise designed to help women identify an automatic response, interrupt it, and practice a more intentional alternative.
Through individual coaching and Pattern Shift Labs, Hartley applies these principles to challenges involving confidence, motivation, personal habits, and decision-making.
Clients have reported meaningful changes.
One client, Cathy, described moving from food-related anxiety that limited her social life to feeling comfortable enjoying restaurants and family gatherings within six weeks.
Another client, Cindi, reported developing supportive routines, greater motivation, and a clearer sense of direction within two weeks of beginning coaching.
These individual experiences illustrate the kinds of changes Hartley seeks to support, although results naturally vary from person to person.
Three Perspectives on Creating a Beautiful Life
Hartley’s upcoming presentation forms part of a broader conversation about intentional living.
At Creating a Beautiful Life, three Calgary entrepreneurs will address different aspects of personal transformation.
Hartley will focus on the mind, examining how habitual thinking influences confidence and behaviour.
Leslie Woods, founder of a personal styling business “A More Interesting Age with Leslie”, will explore how clothing and intentional self-presentation can help women express their identities and approach different areas of life with confidence.
Cindi Banman, founder of Genesis Organizing, will address the home environment, discussing how reducing clutter and creating purposeful living spaces can help alleviate overwhelm.
Hosted at aspiHer Women’s Business Club, the event brings these perspectives together in a setting dedicated to women’s professional development, connection, and personal growth.
Looking Toward 2027 With Intention
As 2027 approaches, Hartley hopes participants leave with a more practical understanding of change.
Her message is that progress can begin with noticing an old thought, questioning its usefulness, and choosing a different response.
For Hartley, whose own journey began during a period of considerable uncertainty, that possibility remains central to her work.
The future, she believes, is shaped partly by the patterns people practice today.
