In the world of public speaking, experience is often considered the ultimate advantage. But for Toastmasters International competitor Terrence Demps II, momentum proved more powerful than tenure.
In November 2025, in Atlanta, Demps advanced to the District-level Table Topics Competition, an achievement that typically follows years of refinement. Instead, his journey unfolded in just over a month.
After winning at the club level under the leadership of Club President Jim Cyganek, Demps placed second at the area contest, overseen by Area Director Lou-Ap Abraham. When the first-place winner became unable to attend Districts, the opportunity passed to Demps. He will now represent his area at the District Competition.
For many, it’s a fortunate turn of events. For Demps, it’s validation of a deeper philosophy.
Betting on Yourself Pays Dividends
Demps joined Toastmasters in 2025 with a singular focus: sharpen his voice to expand his impact. Within weeks, he was competing. Within a month, he was winning.
His rapid ascent underscores a principle he champions through his company, Demps Creative Enterprises LLC: imperfect action beats perfect procrastination.
“If you think of what you have to do as easy it will become so,” Demps says.
That mindset has defined his year. In May 2025, he launched his first professional development initiative in Moscow, Russia. He enrolled in Paul Getter’s Speakpreneur program, completed the Paid to Speak program with Dutton Mindset, and joined Next Level Academy with Jeremy Anderson and Eric Thomas. He also completed the Marine Corps Marine Security Guard program in August 2025 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership with a concentration in Organizational Management at Lake Sumter State College.
The pattern is unmistakable: consistent execution.
From Stage to Strategy
Through Demps Creative Enterprises LLC, Demps helps leaders transform communication into influence. The company specializes in leadership development, strategic messaging, and high-performance speaking, equipping professionals to use their voice as an instrument of impact.
His Toastmasters achievement isn’t simply a trophy. It’s proof of concept.
Public speaking remains one of the most sought-after leadership skills in business. Executives who communicate clearly outperform peers in trust, visibility, and authority. Demps’ story reinforces a competitive advantage often overlooked: speed of action.
A Case Study in ROI on Courage
Advancing to the District Competition after one month is uncommon. But it aligns with Demps’ broader narrative: invest in skill acquisition, take decisive action, and allow momentum to compound.
In a business climate where hesitation often masquerades as preparation, Demps offers a counterexample. Move first. Improve along the way. Compete before you feel ready.
For leaders watching from the sidelines, the message is clear: the highest return on investment may not be capital. It may be courage.
