For more than two decades, Danis Latypov served at the forefront of Russia’s prosecutorial system, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Prosecutor of Ufa, one of the nation’s most strategically important cities. Today, from his new base in the United States, he is preparing to launch a legal consulting firm that will help American companies and institutions navigate the complex and often unpredictable legal environments of Russia and the broader post-Soviet region.
Latypov’s professional story is one of deep institutional knowledge, high-level leadership, and unwavering commitment to legal integrity. Over the course of his 20-year career in public service, he not only investigated and prosecuted complex cases, but also supervised more than 100 junior officers across seven district prosecutor’s offices. Ufa, with its population exceeding 1.1 million, is one of just 16 cities in Russia with its own city-level prosecutorial office. As Deputy Prosecutor, Latypov was entrusted with oversight responsibilities that affected both local governance and federal policy implementation.
What set him apart was his hands-on leadership style and his persistent focus on protecting the rights and interests of ordinary citizens. His work included high-impact interventions in public safety, housing rights, and legal oversight of public agencies. In one widely reported case, he led a prosecutorial effort to relocate over 1,200 residents from unsafe housing conditions into new, government-provided apartments. In another, he directed legal actions that restored electricity and water to a dormitory unlawfully disconnected by its managing company. Such efforts earned him the Medal for the 300th Anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office and formal commendations from the Prosecutor General.
But Latypov’s experience extended well beyond social advocacy. As a senior figure in Russia’s legal apparatus, he also oversaw prosecutorial compliance related to commercial disputes, regulatory enforcement, and anti-corruption mandates. He developed methodological guidelines on protecting businesses from excessive administrative pressure, a subject that remains central to his expertise today.
In 2024, after retiring from government service, Latypovimmigrated to the United States with a mission: to establish a legal consulting firm that would serve U.S. clients engaged in high-risk international business—particularly in Russia, Central Asia, and other post-Soviet jurisdictions. His firm, currently in formation, will provide risk assessments, prosecutorial exposure analysis, legal due diligence, and cross-border compliance support.
“Many American companies underestimate the prosecutorial and regulatory risks they face when doing business in post-Soviet markets,” Latypov explains. “I’ve seen firsthand how legal systems can be used—or misused—to pressure, penalize, or control foreign investors. My goal is to help U.S. entities avoid those traps and operate securely.”
He is also planning to offer advisory services to U.S.-based NGOs, international organizations, and governmental agencies that are involved in rule-of-law projects or civil society development in Eurasia. Having supervised legal reform initiatives and participated in judicial candidate evaluations in Russia, Latypov brings rare institutional insight into the mechanics of legal systems under stress.
His upcoming work in the U.S. will include the development of training programs for American attorneys, compliance officers, and law enforcement officials who are tasked with investigating transnational crime, money laundering, and sanctions violations. He also hopes to collaborate with U.S. academic institutions and policy think tanks on research and comparative legal studies.
Asked what drives him, Latypov answers without hesitation: “Justice is not just a profession—it is a responsibility. I spent my career trying to make Russian law more responsive to the people it’s supposed to protect. Now I want to apply that same commitment to helping American companies and institutions operate abroad with clarity, confidence, and integrity.”
With the global business landscape becoming ever more interdependent, Latypov’s unique blend of prosecutorial expertise, leadership experience, and cross-border legal insight positions him as a valuable resource at a critical time. Through his consulting firm, he aims to be more than just an advisor; he intends to serve as a legal bridge between two vastly different worlds—ensuring that American stakeholders understand the risks they face, and how to overcome them.
