From Monterrey Roots to Los Angeles Dreams
Elisa Beach Ochoa likes to say she didn’t “become” an entrepreneur—she was raised to be one. Growing up in Monterrey, México, she spent her childhood surrounded by her parents’ businesses, watching two hard-working visionaries turn a loan into a livelihood.
By the time she was 18, Ochoa was already testing her own ventures. She began as a self-taught makeup artist, turning her passion into a thriving booked-out business. But when she was accepted to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Southern California, she traded her growing brand for a corporate career.
Yet Los Angeles would prove to be the true stage for her entrepreneurial calling. “I had my oh sh*t moment,” she recalls. “I wasn’t lit up. I didn’t move to LA to live a life that felt meh.”
That realization sparked her next chapter: launching ventures that combined creativity, culture, and mission. From fashion retail pop-ups spotlighting Latin American designers to hosting community-driven podcasts, she consistently chose the harder path of reinvention over complacency.
The Reality Behind Building a Brand
Like many entrepreneurs, Ochoa’s early chapters were filled with doubt, pivots, and financial strain. The hardest part, she admits, was not losing herself in the pursuit of “making it.”
“There’s barely any content showing the journey before people blow up,” she says. “Everyone posts the seven-figure success stories, but no one shows the ugly crying, the self-doubt, or the breakdowns.”
Her response was authenticity. Through her podcast Construyendo Mi Destino™, she began documenting the messy middle—mentorship, money wounds, and the unglamorous but vital moments that build resilience.
“Your first million is the hardest,” she says. “It’s not just about strategy—it’s about finding what works for you, your soul mission, and your energy.”
The Turning Point
Ironically, her most pivotal breakthrough came with a setback: being laid off. While she had been job-hunting, no offers came through. “Thank you, Universe, honestly,” she laughs. Forced to live off her savings, she took a leap of faith and went all-in on her brand.
That decision meant closing her fashion retail business—profitable, but misaligned—and shifting her focus toward thought leadership. Inspired by mentors and masterminds, she discovered what she calls her Genie Frequency™: the unwavering energy of knowing you’re meant to lead even before the external proof arrives.
“Joining masterminds, hiring mentors, going to events—it made me realize I wasn’t crazy, I was just early,” she reflects.
Lessons for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Her advice is as direct as it is empowering: don’t wait to feel ready.
“Build like a millionaire before the millions show up,” she says.
That means leveraging creativity, bold outreach, and a relentless focus on service rather than ego.
Her mantra is simple: What can I do with what I have today? For her, that once meant DIY photo shoots, pitching millionaire clients before she was one herself, and recording podcasts with friends before attracting high-profile guests.
She underscores the value of mentorship and networking, crediting consistent event attendance as a game-changer. “Relationships are wealth. And your voice is currency,” she emphasizes.
Redefining Balance and Power
While Ochoa admits to an almost obsessive devotion to her work, she has learned the importance of protecting her energy. Years of overworking led to burnout and even physical pain, teaching her that sustainable success must be built on ease, joy, and alignment.
“My power doesn’t come from numbers—clients, revenue, likes,” she says. “It comes from my story, my truth, and who I am when there’s nothing left to prove.”
What’s Next for “Construyendo Mi Destino”
Looking ahead, Ochoa is scaling her mission into a movement. She’s growing her two podcasts—Construyendo Mi Destino and Derrumbando el Muro—while working on her first book, slated for release on her 30th birthday.
Her ultimate vision? A multimillion-dollar revolution of Latina leaders.
“We’re not just here to build businesses,” she declares. “We’re here to build our destinies. We are creatives, leaders, and visionaries. And our magic deserves to be paid, honored, and seen.”
