In a world that’s increasingly diverse yet often divided, the ability to communicate across cultures is no longer a soft skill—it is a strategic one.
For Elda Acevedo Estefania, founder of InterCulturaling, the mission to help people connect across cultural lines is deeply personal. With roots in Puerto Rico, an international education, and years of experience guiding diverse teams, classrooms, and communities, she is helping leaders everywhere recognize what often goes unseen—culture as the silent influencer of connection, trust, and performance.
From the Classroom to the Brand
InterCulturaling began as a lived experience long before it became a business.
Elda was raised in a bicultural household, studied communications in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Spain, and spent over a decade supporting individuals and teams in navigating the dynamics of language, behavior, and belonging. She worked across education, business, travel, and tech—always bridging gaps others couldn’t see.
“For years, I was doing the work instinctively,” she says. “When I finally coined the term InterCulturaling—a verb that describes the act of communicating with someone from another culture—I realized I could finally teach what I had always lived.”
Turning Insight Into Impact
One of Elda’s early challenges was defining an offering that felt intangible.
“Culture is invisible until it is not. It shows up in how we listen, lead, and respond—but it is rarely named,” she explains. Early on, translating her instinctive knowledge into a brand others could grasp required clarity, courage, and storytelling.
Juggling branding, websites, course design, and taxes while still working full time, she returned to the human stories. “Every breakthrough reminded me that this work is necessary. That kept me going.”
A Defining Shift
The breakthrough came when Elda stopped trying to fit into existing categories—diversity training, leadership development, multicultural education—and instead created her own.
“InterCulturaling is not about checking boxes. It is about showing up with curiosity, clarity, and care,” she says. “It is an intentional act, not a program or label.”
Once she named it, she could build it. And she did—from a clear framework and transformative trainings to a scalable platform.
Advice to Purpose Driven Founders
“Do not wait for the perfect pitch or viral moment,” she says. “Clarity comes from action, not overthinking.”
Elda encourages entrepreneurs to start from lived truth—not trends—and to measure success in meaningful conversations, not metrics alone.
“Build what only you can build. And trust that the right people will find it.”
Living the Work
Elda’s work is inseparable from her life.
“Culture is how I think, how I parent, how I listen,” she shares. With her children now graduated and her husband, also an entrepreneur, increasingly involved in the mission, she says the timing feels right.
“This is not work life balance. This is alignment.”
What Comes Next
Elda is expanding the reach of InterCulturaling. An online course is in development, along with a five month immersive program for teams and organizations.
She is also exploring collaborations across sectors—from education and healthcare to nonprofit and business leadership.
And yes, she is writing more—sharing the behind the scenes of building something with heart. “This is not just a business. It is a call to help people connect through what makes us human—culture.”
